— School of Management conducted socio-economic research to study the impact of Electrification at Shiyalbet-Island

To evaluate the socio, economic and educational impact of the electrification in the Shiyal bet, a group 12 MBA students conducted survey for the research work designed by SOM faculty members Dr. Nailesh Limbasiya and Dr. Reena Patel for PGVCL. All 12 students visited the island which is located near Jafrabad in Amreli District of Gujarat – which is having population of approximate 5500 people having main occupation of fishing.

Students interacted with Sarpanch, School Teachers, Shopkeepers and Villagers and got to know many things which was not explored yet and observed significant social and educational improvement post electrification in this island. This is a very interesting project for the students of MBA who learnt about Government involvement in socio economic upliftment of backward/rural areas. They also studied several other developmental activities of the island by Government in recent past.

This was an ambitious task of Pachim Gujarat Vij Company Limited, a government company into the business of providing electricity. The entire project was funded by RK University and supporting arrangement were provided by PGVCL which helped students learn about socio economic research and helped PGVCL and in turn state government to assess the impact of electrification on lives and economic development of the village island.
