ENGINES Project

About ENGINES

Development of Innovative Systems linking Academic Education in Engineering and Informatics with Labour Market’s Needs

An Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education project coordinated by RK University, India.

Connecting engineering and informatics education with graduate career pathways, industry needs and employability.

Project Overview

ENGINES brought together higher education institutions and organisations from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Spain, Poland and Greece to strengthen the connection between academic education and labour-market needs in engineering and informatics. The project was designed to help universities understand graduates’ career pathways, identify skills required by employers, improve career guidance and mentoring, and develop closer cooperation with industry.

The proposed approach combined graduate tracer studies, skills mapping, career-support mechanisms, work-based learning and methods for updating curricula. These components were intended to form a practical toolbox for participating universities, supported by staff training and pilot implementation.

Implementation records document preparatory research and tracer-study activity, consortium coordination and dissemination work. This website presents the original project design alongside the activities and resources documented in the available records.

Main Aim

To improve the relevance of engineering and informatics higher education to labour-market needs through stronger evidence on graduate employment, better university career support and closer university–industry cooperation.

Specific Objectives

  • Develop a tracer-study mechanism to investigate graduates’ education-to-employment pathways and identify skills needs.
  • Develop mentoring and career-guidance mechanisms for university career-support services.
  • Strengthen work-based learning through university–enterprise cooperation.
  • Develop methods for reviewing and modernising modular curricula in response to industry needs.
  • Train academic and administrative staff to use the proposed toolbox.
  • Pilot and refine the toolbox in participating universities.
  • Support implementation through project management, quality assurance and dissemination.

Target Groups

  • Engineering and informatics graduates and students.
  • Academic staff and researchers.
  • University administrative staff and career-support teams.
  • Employers, industry representatives and prospective placement hosts.
  • University leaders and education stakeholders concerned with employability and curriculum relevance.
